The Bottom Bracket Shell, a Time Capsule for Insect and Rodent Activity

I have found the most interesting things inside of bottom bracket shells.  I’m fascinated that nature finds uses for bicycles when we’re not riding them.

From now on, I am going to keep this post updated with pics of the things I find.  If you have an interesting find on or in a bicycle, please share it with me.  Include your first name, where you live, and what model of bike it is.  Thanks!

I have found countless exoskeletons of wasps, bees, ants and beetles inside of bottom bracket shells.  This was the first time that I found acorns.  The only way it could have gotten there is that a mouse dropped it into the top of the seat post for safe keeping.
