Save These Cantilever Brake Parts for French Fenders

Today’s post is about an obscure fix.  Here goes.  French fenders that typically come on Peugeot and other French bikes have strange fastening hardware.  It is a hybrid clamp/bolt thingy which I’m sure has a special name.  They often get lost.

Luckily, some of them can be replaced using the hardware from Shimano cantilever brakes from the 1990’s.  The plastic spring bushing inevitably breaks, rendering the brakes useless and in need of replacement.

Below are the type of brakes I’m talking about and the parts from those brakes.

And here I have re-attached the fender stay it its spot using the clamp bolt from the cantilever brakes.
