David will be 2 years old soon. He does everything you’d expect a boy of his age to do. He makes messes of all sorts. He knocks over valuable bikes on occasion. He tries to play a guitar like it’s a snare drum. Today, however, David shone beyond his years. He scored a 1966 Schwinn DeLuxe Racer 3-Speed in Radiant Coppertone for free!
It goes like this. If you let a 2-year-old outside to play while you work on a bike in the garage, he’ll see a mother riding a bike with her baby. When he sees the mother riding a bike with her baby, he’ll ask you to take him on a bike ride. When you take him on a bike ride, he’ll see a 1966 Schwinn DeLuxe Racer 3-Speed in Radiant Coppertone sitting on the curb in front of a house. He’ll shout, “bike!” When he shouts “bike!”, you’ll look around and see it too. You’ll have to turn around. When you turn around and go back to the house with the Schwinn DeLuxe Racer 3-Speed in Radiant Coppertone, you’ll ask the man in front of the house if the bike is for sale. When you ask the man if the bike is for sale, he will say that you can have it. When the man with the Schwinn DeLuxe Racer 3-Speed in Radiant Coppertone says that you can have it, you say, “Thank you!”
David Sprague has earned his initial “D” on the Sprague & Sons Bicycles company logo today! He has shown an excellent eye for opportunity. He has prompted Papa Sprague to get out of the garage to acquire a 52-yr-old American cycling gem. Boy will his brothers be jealous when they get home from school and see that their baby brother is dad’s hero today.
