1974 Schwinn Sprint

This is a super-fun bike, made in my birth month in Chicago.  The original Schwinn Sprint was an American-made beauty with a shorter wheel base, and the same components as the Continental.  This is not to be confused with the Schwinn of the same name, manufactured in Taiwan by Giant.

Above is a pic of the bike as I found it.  Someone had converted this to a cruiser / hybrid with Wald handle bars and foam grips.  Notice that they used the original brake levers, inverted, and without the emergency levers.  It’s a hillbilly conversion, so this bike needed careful re-hillbillitation.  It took a lot of rooting around in my bone yard to find bars that would fit the stem, emergency levers of the same model, and various washers and springs to make the levers original and whole again.
